JAKARTA - A female passenger forced a Jet2 plane flying from Britain to Turkey to be diverted to Vienna, Austria, after she became aggressive towards staff and started slapping her fellow passengers.

The airline's Jet2 flight landed in the Austrian capital at 11.40 am local time on Monday, with passengers cheering as she was escorted off the plane.

The UK lifted all remaining travel rules last week, but it's not like this brash blonde will be traveling abroad again any time soon.

The reason why the woman became aggressive towards the flight staff, then slapped the other passengers, was not yet known.

There is speculation that the crying baby on the flight had upset him. However, an eyewitness said the woman became 'annoying' more than an hour before the flight's departure from Manchester Airport, England.

"There was a lot of noise," the unnamed witness told the Manchester Evening News, about the behavior of the woman on board the plane.

"Then he came to the front of the plane. She was really mad at the Jet2 staff and wouldn't calm down. His voice was getting louder and more aggressive, she was screaming in front of people."

"A passenger said something and he slapped him in the face. Then a man got up to try to calm the situation before taking him to the back of the plane."

The incident was caught on camera and is a first for witnesses, who praised the calm and controlled behavior of Jet2 staff.

"This is the first time we have had to land because of someone on a flight. Jet2 staff handled the whole situation very well. Nobody could help the woman who went out of control once she slapped the passenger," she said.

Regarding the incident, the travel operator sent a text message apologizing to passengers, while they were waiting on the tarmac at Vienna Airport, Austria regarding the continuation of their flight.

Finally, the plane took off again at 1 pm local time to continue the flight, resulting in a delay of about 80 minutes.

Later Jet2 confirmed the incident in a statement to MEN.

"We can confirm that flight LS895 from Manchester to Antalya was diverted to Vienna earlier today, so that disruptive passenger can be disembarked," the airline said in a statement.

"As a family-friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behavior," the statement continued.
