Doctor SU Shot By Densus 88 For Fighting And Dangering Residents, Police: He's A Terrorism Suspect

JAKARTA - The National Police stated that the doctor with the initials SU (54) who was killed in the series of actions against the Anti-terror Detachment 88 was not a terrorist suspect. Instead, he was a suspect.

"Before the arrest, he was a suspect in a criminal act of terrorism, not a suspect", said Head of Public Information Bureau of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, to reporters on Friday, March 11.

The determination of the suspect against the man from Sukoharjo was due to his involvement in a terrorist group. He is said to be a member of the terrorist network organization Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) as well as an adviser to the emir or group leader.

"Several involvements include being a member of the JI terrorist organization, the second serving as Amir Khidmat, the third deputy for da'wah and information, as an adviser to the emir of the JI terrorist organization, the person in charge of the Hilal Ahmar Society", said Ramadhan.

In addition to status, Ramadhan also mentioned the reasons behind the decisive action taken by members of Detachment 88. SU was considered to have carried out resistance to endanger people's lives.

The form of resistance was by trying to hit a member of Detachment 88 with the car he was driving. In fact, driving irregularly to drop members who are in the back of the car.

"The suspect continued to drive his car and drove fast and shook the steering wheel left and right or in a zigzag to bring down officers", said Ramadhan.

In addition, SU also hit a passing vehicle around the location. For that reason, the officers decided to give a measured, firm shot.

The decision of Detachment 88 members to give measurable decisive action, continued Ramadhan, was by the Criminal Code (KUHP) and the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

Moreover, in Law number 2 of 2002 concerning the Indonesian National Police and the Regulation of the National Police Chief (Perkap) number 1 of 2009 even the actions of members of the Detachment are considered correct. Where measurable decisive action can be taken if the suspect endangers the public and officers.

"Take firm and measured action because the action was carried out because the suspect's actions have endangered or threatened the safety of the lives of the community and Polri officers", he said.

"This action is also by the National Police Chief Regulation number 8 of 2009 concerning the implementation of human rights principles and standards in carrying out Police's duties", continued Ramadhan.

Meanwhile, SU died after being shot by Detachment 88 Anti-terror in a series of arrests in Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java, on March 9.

During the action, SU, who is said to be a doctor by profession, suffered gunshot wounds to his upper back and right hip.
