Police Says Kiai In Indramayu Attacked When Chanting Dzikir

BANDUNG - Head of Public Relation of West Java Regional Police, Grand Commissioner Pol Ibrahim Tompo explained the chronology of the persecution of a Kiai in Indramayu Regency, West Java, by the suspect with the initials SR (33) when the victim was doing remembrance at the prayer room.

According to him, the perpetrator went to the victim, namely Kiai Farid Asr Waddahr as Chair of the Jam'iyyah Ahlith Tarekat Al Mu'tabarah An Nahdliyyah at the prayer room after asking the victim's wife whereabouts at her residence. Ibrahim said the victim's wife was also not spared from persecution by the perpetrators.

"So it happened suddenly, at that time there were indeed many worshipers there, and indeed many residents there, so the condition of the victim was doing remembrance," said Ibrahim at the West Java Regional Police, Bandung City, West Java, Thursday 10 March.

The perpetrators carried out the persecution by slashing Kiai Farid along with his wife and students at the Islamic Boarding School in Tegalmulya Village, Krangkeng District, Indramayu Regency, on Tuesday (8/3) night.

According to Ibrahim, the perpetrators were residents in the vicinity of Kiai Farid's Islamic boarding school. According to him, the perpetrator is suspected of persecuting the Kiai because he has a different religious understanding motive.

After carrying out the persecution using sharp weapons, he said, the perpetrator was then raged by the congregation who were at the location and local residents.

"He was arrested by the mob, so when he was detained by the police he was in a battered condition, because the crowd arrested him," he said.

Currently, Kiai Farid and other victims are undergoing treatment at the hospital due to their injuries. Meanwhile, the perpetrators of SR were charged with Article 338 and Article 351 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of 15 years in prison.
