JAKARTA - Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) researcher Agus Herta Sumarto assesses that the G20 2022 Presidency is proof that Indonesia is included in a group of influential countries that have a strategic role, so people should be proud of this chairmanship.

"We should be proud that Indonesia is included in the G20 group of countries. This group of G20 countries can be said to be an elite group of countries that have a strategic role in the global political economy," Agus said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, March 3.

The G20 is a multilateral cooperation forum consisting of 19 major countries and the European Union (EU).

Thus, the G20 represents more than 60 percent of the earth's population, 75 percent of global trade, and 80 percent of the world's gross domestic product (GDP), so that it can become a game-changer for various problems that are currently being faced by the world.

According to Agus, the G20 Presidency is a moment for Indonesia to be able to take advantage of it in order to encourage quality economic growth.

"This moment is also important to attract investment, increase trade, and increase economic cooperation, both multilateral and bilateral," he said.

Agus emphasized that in taking advantage of the G20 Presidency, Indonesia must be good at negotiating and political lobbying with G20 member countries.

The points of cooperation carried out must be made in detail so that there is no gap for the state to suffer losses for the Indonesian economy and politics.

"This is what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and related ministries must do so that all economic and political cooperation creates optimal benefits for Indonesia," he said.
