Jokowi Is Asked To Use His Influence As Chair Of The G-20 To Push To Stop Russia's Invasion Of Ukraine

JAKARTA - The National Awakening Party (PKB) has asked President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to exert influence to prevent a further crisis from the war between Russia and Ukraine.

"We call on all world leaders for Russia to stop its invasion of Ukraine," said Luluk Nur Hamidah, head of the PKB Party Central Executive Board (DPP) for Foreign Affairs, to reporters on Thursday, February 24.

Luluk emphasized that the PKB rejected the military invasion by Russia into Ukrainian territory because it was against the values of humanity and eternal peace. Therefore, according to him, President Jokowi must encourage the United Nations to take quick and measured steps to stop Russia's attack on Ukraine.

"And prevent acts of military attack from any party, including NATO," said Luluk.

The member of the PKB faction in the DPR assessed that Russian President Vladimir Putin's military actions would create misery for both countries, especially the Ukrainian people. In addition, according to her, a military invasion will also cause an extraordinary humanitarian crisis.

"A military invasion will only lead to new, bigger and more sustainable dangers. PKB cannot imagine a wave of millions of refugees that will flood Europe and the surrounding region if this crisis is not ended peacefully," Luluk said.

As a superpower, she continued, Russia has a very important role in maintaining world peace and balance. Russia's power and leadership created a wave of protest and hostility from around the world.

"In the midst of a global pandemic that has not ended, we should work together to be able to end it immediately," said Luluk.

The member of Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) emphasized that the COVID pandemic had actually caused a lot of shocks. Both the health system of a country globally, economic resilience, and community resilience. The pandemic also creates uncertainty that feels even more severe for developing countries.

"Especially for vulnerable groups around the world," she said.

Luluk said that political work and humanitarian work were a challenge so that they could be carried out simultaneously by all state leaders to ensure that the people and the world could still be saved.

For this reason, PKB asked Jokowi to give his role because he was hosting the G-20. In addition, he also asked NATO to maintain distance and interests and withdraw from the border so as not to become a bad provocation for the Russia-Ukraine situation.

"Ask and support President Jokowi as Chair of the G-20 to use his influence to take the necessary steps to prevent a further Russian crisis and continue to encourage non-violent means or efforts to stop the military invasion of Ukraine," Luluk said.
