110 Million People Predict Year-End Holidays, Puan Reminds Government To Check Transportation Readiness

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, asked the Government to ensure the readiness of all public transportation facilities and infrastructure to face the moment of Christmas and New Year's celebrations 2025. This is because the movement of people during the end of the 2024/2025 holiday is predicted to increase to 110.67 million people.

"We hope that the Government will ensure the readiness of all transportation nodes because they have now entered the holiday. Moreover, many people will also go home to celebrate Christmas Day 2024. Make sure to provide the best service for the community," said Puan Maharani, Friday, December 20.

In addition to services that must be improved at transportation nodes, Puan asked the Government to ensure the safety and security aspects of the community. "Security checks must not be rushed, and all procedures must be carried out according to applicable standards," added Puan.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture also highlighted the Government's policy of decreasing aircraft ticket prices for the end of this year's holiday which had an impact. This can be seen from the surge in passengers over the last few days. However, Puan assessed, this policy should not only focus on price aspects, but also on service quality.

"All operators must ensure that the surge in passengers does not lower service and safety standards. Including how the Government supervises so that the decline in aircraft ticket prices does not have an impact on the quality of service and comfort and safety of people using air transportation," explained Puan.

Puan also appealed to all relevant agencies to synergize to ensure the smooth running of public transportation during the end of this year's holiday period. "Not only at the airport, but all modes of transportation such as land transportation, trains, and sea modes must be able to provide the best service," explained Bung Karno's grandson.

The chairman of the PDIP DPP also asked for the readiness of medical service posts and human resources at each community travel point. Puan appealed to the Government to conduct periodic evaluations of every policy implementation implemented during this long holiday period.

"All responsible officers must be able to help the needs of the community. Cooperation and coordination across agencies so that they can run optimally to ensure that community travel can run smoothly," said Puan.

"The comprehensive evaluation includes the impact of policies on passengers, airports, terminals, stations and ports. With good collaboration between the Government, operators and relevant stakeholders, we hope that it can be evidence that the Indonesian transportation sector is able to provide quality services for the community," he said.

For information, based on information from the Ministry of Transportation, as many as 539,822 people have traveled using public transportation until D-7 Christmas Day 2024.

The data was obtained based on data on passenger movements at 113 terminals, 23 ferry ports, 264 seaports, 56 airports, 450 stations, 42 toll gates, and 48 arterial roads in and out of Jabodetabek, as well as additional reporting from government/institutional agencies during the implementation of the post.

Meanwhile, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) predicts that the cumulative number of aircraft passenger movements at 37 InJourney Airports will reach 9.27 million people, during the Christmas and New Year 2024/2025 transportation periods.
