Trump's Transition Team Calls Google, Meta, And Snap To Handle Sales Of Illegal Drugs Online
JAKARTA The transition team of Elected President Donald Trump has reportedly contacted five major technology companies, including Google, Microsoft, and Meta Platforms. The meeting was to discuss efforts to handle the online sale of illegal drugs. The meeting is scheduled to take place in mid-December, as reported by The Information on Sunday 8 December.
The invitation email for the meeting was sent by representative Jim Carroll, who previously served as "Drug Czar" during Trump's first term, along with Trump's transition team. The invitation was addressed to staff from Google, Microsoft, Meta, Snap, and TikTok.
According to sources with direct knowledge of the correspondence, Trump's transition team wants to hear the priorities of these technology companies as well as the obstacles they face in addressing issues related to online drug sales.

In a post on Truth Social in November, Trump said he would start a "massive advertising campaign" to explain the dangers of using fentanyl to the public.
The case also highlights the role of technology companies in fighting the abuse of their platform for drug trafficking. In March, The Wall Street Journal reported that US prosecutors were investigating whether Meta profited from drug sales and distribution on Facebook and Instagram.
Meanwhile, eBay in January agreed to pay $59 million and stepped up compliance measures to settle the US Department of Justice's allegations that it failed to prevent the purchase of devices to make counterfeit drugs, including pills containing fentanyl.
Google, Microsoft, Meta, Snap, TikTok, and Trump's transition team have yet to respond to requests for comment regarding this meeting.
