Nawawi Reveals The Task Of The Temporary Chair Of The KPK Is Heavy Because It Must Restore Public Trust
JAKARTA - The interim chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nawawi Pomolango said his task would be tough in the future. Because after being inaugurated, Nawawi and other leaders must restore the trust of the public which has decreased drastically.
This was conveyed by Nawawi after being inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) replacing Firli Bahuri who was temporarily dismissed for being a suspect in the alleged extortion and acceptance of gratuities from former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo. He said that the current dynamics have eroded the trust of the people who are the capital for eradicating corruption.
"One thing that is most very burdensome for us is the erosion of public trust. That is the capital and that has been eroded and it has become the toughest job for the institution," Nawawi told reporters at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday, November 27.
Nawawi said his job was not easy, just like when he was Deputy Chair of the KPK. However, he is ready to carry out because he has been appointed and made an oath of office.
Nawawi said that President Jokowi did not say much before he was inaugurated. He only received a careful message from the former Governor of DKI Jakarta.
"He was enough with this expression, we read it. But there was one saying, 'Be careful in carrying out tasks, carrying out tasks'," he said.
