Maurizio Sarri's Future Question Mark At Lazio After Losing To Salernitana

JAKARTA - Lazio coach, Maurizio Sarri, sued his future at the Roma club after last season's Serie A runners-up was surprised by Salernitana's caretaker team in a 1-2 defeat on Saturday, November 25. This is their sixth defeat in the league competition this season.

Lazio, who took the lead through Ciro Immobile's penalty in the first half before conceding two goals in the second half, are now in 10th place with 17 points. This is their worst start in Serie A season since 2013-14.

Sarri blamed the player's attitude and mentality, and stated that if he felt his management was part of the matter, he was willing to resign.

"Something has to be done to stop this inertia," Sarri told reporters after the match.

"The team has lost character and initiative. After scoring in the first half, we again hope to control it for 50 minutes. That's not the character of our team," he said.

"If in the next few days I evaluate and find out that it was my fault, I would be the first to take the decision to step down by speaking to the President," added Sarri.

Despite starting Serie A badly, Lazio are in second place in their Champions League group with seven points. They are only one point behind Atletico Madrid and one point ahead of Feyenoord who are in third place.

They will host Celtic who are at the bottom on Tuesday.

"I'm worried about the mentality of the team that finds it difficult to find itself back," added Sarri. "Sometimes the Champions League can do a miracle and hopefully provide a different mentality."
