Prabowo Talks About The Possibility Of Indonesia Joining BRICS: Why Not?
President Prabowo Subianto's candidate will not rule out the possibility that Indonesia will join the BRICS economic bloc if it wins the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) contestation.
According to him, there is no reason to refuse to join if it has a good impact or benefits the Indonesian economy.
"So we will see if our economic interests will benefit, why not we join BRICS?" Prabowo told reporters, Monday, November 13.
BRICS is several countries that form groups in the economic sector such as Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
The possibility of joining BRICS is said to not hurt Indonesia's non-block principles. Because, BRICS is not a geopolitical alliance.
Moreover, Indonesia is also known to have been in some of the world's economic blocks.
"We are participating in the G20, we are also part of Asean, we are now part of APEC, it is not a geopolitical association, it is an economic association," said Prabowo.

"Basically, I think all Indonesian observers will realize that Indonesia's foreign policy tradition is very, very clear. Since the beginning of our independence and sovereignty, we have often had independent foreign policies. Guided by the principle of no geopolitical block membership whatsoever," said Prabowo.
