Asking Uninvolved Residents To Hoax, PVMBG Calls Mount Slamet Activities Still Fluctuating

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) appealed to the people around Mount Slamet to remain calm and not be influenced by hoaxes related to the largest volcanic activity of the island of Java.

"Until now, the level of volcanic activity of Mount Slamet is still Level II or Alert," said Head of the PVMBG Slamet Volcano Observation Post (PGA) Muhammad Rusdi when contacted, Thursday, November 2, confiscated by Antara.

According to him, the volcanic activity of Mount Slamet in the Banyumas, Purbalingga, Pemalang, Tegal, and Brebes Regencies is still fluctuating.

He said that based on visual observations made from the Slamet PGA Post in Gambihan Village, Pulosari District, Pemalang, on Wednesday (1/11), at 00.00 WIB-24.00 WIB, the mountain was clearly visible to the 0-I fog.

"Weak pressure crater smoke was observed to be white with a thick intensity and a height of 100-200 meters above the crater peak," he said.

Meanwhile, in terms of seismicity, he continued, continuous tremors or microtremors were recorded with an amplitude of 0.5-5 millimeters, dominant of 1.5 millimeters.

He said the tremors continued to show Mount Slamet's volcanic activity.

"Until now, PVMBG still recommends to the public and tourists not to be present or active within a 2 kilometer radius of the summit crater of Mount Slamet," he said.

Regarding this condition, Rusdi appealed to the public not to be influenced by various issues or hoaxes related to the activities of Mount Slamet, which is currently still at Level II or Alert.

In recent times, he said, photos of Mount Slamet's volcanic activity have often been found on social media, which was actually an incident in 2014 when the mountain was on Alert (Level III) but was referred to as the latest incident.
