Supply Chain Problem, Volkswagen Admits New Electric Vehicle Ordering Obstacles

JAKARTA - Electric vehicles represent the most transformative changes in the auto industry in recent years.

However, not all automotive giants have had a smooth journey through this transition.

One of them was experienced by Volkswagen, despite recording significant sales growth until Q3 2023, but the company claims there are obstacles in terms of new electric vehicle orders.

"Our order deployment is below the ambitious target as the overall market trend is lower than expected," said Hildegard Wortmann, who oversees marketing and sales of VW, quoted from the Electrek page, Sunday, October 15.

Volkswagen's obstacle is not without reason, according to him, supply chain and logistics issues have led to an extension of the time for electric car shipments.

"We are currently reviewing this matter to be resolved immediately," he added.

Seeing Volkswagen's sales in the first nine months of 2023, VW has delivered a total of 531,500 electric vehicles.

This increased significantly by 45 percent from the previous year, by 366,600 units.

Europe has become the main market share by absorbing 341,100 vehicles, or 64 percent in total.

The automaker hopes the launch of new electric vehicles such as the latest ID.7 will help reverse the positive trend as it will launch in key markets such as Europe, North America, and China.
