Fire Team Overcome Bamboo Forest Fire Near Settlement In Pamekasan

PAMEKASAN - The fire team managed to overcome a bamboo forest fire near a resident village in Kangean Village, Pamekasan, East Java.

"Thanks to the alertness of our fellow officers who were assisted by the police, TNI and local residents, we have succeeded in preventing the spread of bamboo forest fires," said Head of Operations for the Fire Brigade Team at the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol-PP) and Fire Department (Damkar) Pamekasan Regency Government, Zainudin, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 4.

The burning bamboo forest is located in an area of 100 square meters and is located in a densely populated village in Kangen Hamlet, Pamekasan.

The flames had risen high and could be seen from a distance of about 1 kilometer from the scene. Residents who live around the location panicked, because the wind was very strong.

The fire team arrived at the scene at around 19.22 WIB and immediately extinguished from the east side of the hotspot, preventing the fire from spreading into another bamboo tree in that location.

Residents together with the TNI and police also helped extinguish the fire with makeshift tools.

"Thanks to the assistance of the residents, in about 20 minutes the fire was controlled until it was finally extinguished," said Zainudin.

The results of research by officers in the field stated that the cause of the bamboo forest fire in the densely populated village in Kangen Village was because there were residents who threw cigarette butts carelessly.

The cigarette fire then burned leaves of dry bamboo and the fire then grew.

Zainudin explained that apart from extinguishing the fire, the team also conveyed socialization to local residents about the importance of preventing fires by not throwing cigarette butts carelessly.

"Currently it is the dry season, the weather is very hot, so if there is a hotspot, there is the potential for fires like now," he told residents at the scene.
