A Man Was Killed By A Bull At The Festival In East Spain

JAKARTA - A man has died from injuries he suffered after being gored by a bull at a festival in eastern Spain, authorities said.

The Spanish man, who was not named, was gored by a bull named Cocinero during a bull running festival in the town of Pobla de Farnals, Valencia region, on Saturday.

He was taken to hospital but later died, officials there said on Sunday, reported by Reuters, September 25.

The man suffered injuries to his pelvis and underwent surgery, but his life was said to still not be saved, quoted by the BBC.

Meanwhile, a second man, a Spaniard, who was gored in the leg by the same bull, was in stable condition in hospital, officials added.

According to a survey by animal rights groups AnimaNaturalis and CAS international, more than 1,820 activities related to the tradition of releasing bulls through the streets along predetermined paths, while people run in front of them, are held in various Spanish cities every year.

Even though it is risky, this activity is still popular among foreign tourists and local residents.

Last year, two men, aged 50 and 46, died after being hit by a bull in Valencia. Meanwhile, a French tourist in his 60s suffered serious injuries, as reported by the Independent.

Meanwhile, in 2015, two US citizens and a British citizen were headbutted, leaving eight others injured, while taking part in the San Fermin Festival.

It is said that this bull running tradition provides a much-needed boost to the economy of the host cities, including Valencia.

A 2019 study found that this kind of activity could create more than 3,000 jobs and generate turnover of up to 300 million euros with almost 10,000 events per year.
