GE Health Supports The Development Of Ultrasound Equipment With Artificial Intelligence For Developing Countries
Ge Health announced its plans to develop an ultrasonicographic scanning tool (USG) assisted by artificial intelligence (AI) which is so easy to use that health service providers will be able to operate it even without special training.
Research and development of the tool will be funded by a US$44 million (Rp675.3 billion) grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The foundation has been investing in the spread of new technology in low-buy areas to address gaps in access to health.
GE says this artificial intelligence scanning technology has been designed to be distributed to low- and middle-income countries where health care provider services may be limited. This ultrasound tool will be more effective in providing a clear reading of lung and ultrasound scanning in maternal and fetal care as well as pediatric lung health.

These medical areas are critical because maternal and child deaths can largely be prevented if medical intervention occurs quickly. Proper medical scanning is key to achieving a timely diagnosis, guiding treatment decisions, and can improve treatment results.
The US$3 billion (Rp46 trillion) ultrasound business from GE recently focused on pipelines for AI software development with acquisitions of state-owned companies such as Caption Health, which will help design this ultrasound tool.
The company appears to be committed to an increased spending strategy on AI-related projects both today and in the future.
