Marijuana Dealer 1.2 Kilogram Arrested At Sorong Port, Papua

JAKARTA - Sorong Resort Police (Polres), Southwest Papua, named BRP (25) as a suspect because he was found guilty of carrying 1.2 kilograms of marijuana from Jayapura, Papua to Sorong City.

Sorong Police Chief AKBP Yohanes Agustiandaru in Sorong, Sunday, explained that for his actions the suspect was charged under Article 111 paragraph 2 concerning the Narcotics Law with a minimum sentence of 12 months, maximum four years in prison and a minimum fine of IDR 800 million, maximum IDR 8 billion.

"So we don't mess around with narcotics dealers in the jurisdiction of the Sorong Police, we will arrest and process whoever it is," explained Sorong Police Chief Yohanes, Antara, Sunday, September 17.

He explained that the perpetrator brought marijuana using sea transportation from Jayapura and was arrested by the Opsnal Team and KBO of the Sorong Police Narcotics Unit when KM Sinabung was docked at Sorong Harbor.

"When officers searched the suspect at the Sorong Harbor pier, they found 21 large clear plastics and 14 medium-sized clear plastics containing marijuana," explained Sorong Police Chief Yohanes.

The follow-up to this case has been upgraded from an investigation process to an investigation, he said.

The police, he said, are still continuing to investigate this case, because there is one suspect whose status has been increased and is on the wanted list (DPO).

"Even though the perpetrator's actions did not lead to the sale of illicit goods, the article charged is Article 111 paragraph 2," explained the Police Chief.

The modus operandi, he said, was that after the team carried out an examination of the perpetrator, the result was that the perpetrator carried out his action because of purely economic needs.

So, said the Sorong Police Chief, the disclosure of this type of marijuana narcotics case is a concrete manifestation of the Sorong Police's commitment to crack down on every activity of narcotics traffickers in the Sorong Regency area.

"This is a concrete manifestation of the launch of an anti-narcotics village and commitment to making Sorong Regency a district free from narcotics trafficking," he said.
