Komnas Categorizes Femicuda For The Murder Of Wife By Husband In Cikarang Bekasi
JAKARTA - Komnas Perempuan views that the case of the murder of a husband against his victim as a legal wife witnessed by two children under five in Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, is categorized as a femicid.
"Femicuda is the murder of women driven by hatred, revenge, conquest, mastery, worship, and view of women as ownership so that they can do as they please," said member of Komnas Perempuan Bahrul Fuad when contacted, Wednesday, September 13, as reported by Antara.
According to him, the femicuda's content is different from ordinary killings because it contains aspects of gender inequality, dominance, aggression or expression.
"Femicuda is not death as is generally the case, it is a product of patriarchal and misogynistic culture and occurs both in the private, community, and state areas," he said.
Komnas Perempuan's findings show that the femicicide occurs in the form of sadistic and layered extreme violence and can be seen from the motive, pattern of murder, as well as various impacts on the victim's family.
Based on media monitoring conducted by Komnas Perempuan in 2016-2020, there were 421 cases of murder against women, of which 42.3 percent of the perpetrators were husbands and 19.2 percent of lovers.
"This situation shows that private spaces or household relations have not provided security guarantees for women from violence," said Bahrul Fuad.
