Floods Soak 25 Houses On The RI-Malaysia Surut Border, Kapuas Hulu BPBD Help Residents Clean Up Mud

A total of 25 houses of residents of the Indonesia-Malaysia border area in the Kapuas Hulu area, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan) were flooded.

Head of the Kapuas Hulu Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Gunawan said the flood, which is located in Laja Sandang Village, Empanang District, occurred on Monday, September 11 at around 02.00 WIB. But now, it is gradually receding.

"Currently the water conditions have receded, we urge the public to remain vigilant against the possibility of further flooding," he said in Putussibau, Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan, Tuesday, September 12, which was confiscated by Antara.

He explained that although the flood in Laja Sandang Village was only a few hours, it resulted in a number of public facilities being submerged, such as roads, school buildings, and 25 houses.

Gunawan said the flood occurred because the rainfall was quite high which caused the river in Laja Sandang Village to overflow with water depth of approximately 80 centimeters from the ground.

Due to this incident, said Gunawan, the Kapuas Hulu BPBD dispatched a team to the flood site to monitor and assist the evacuation process of a number of belongings of residents after the flood occurred.

"When the Kapuas Hulu BPBD Team went to the flood site, it had receded. However, community activities were still disrupted because the community was still cleaning up mud and garbage," he said.

He advised the public to be aware of venomous animals such as snakes and lipants as well as mosquito larvae.

"What is clear is that we urge the public to remain alert to further flooding," he said.
