Steady Develop Carbon Capture And Storage Technology, Pertamina Do This
JAKARTA - PT Pertamina (Persero) is developing carbon Capture Storage/Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCS/CCUS) technology.
For this reason, the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Nicke Widyawati signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a number of parties related to the implementation of CCS/CCUS technology. Among others, PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam, PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga-Sanga and PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Chevron and Mitsui.
"Pertamina is ready and committed to contributing to the country's efforts as summarized in our NZE Roadmap. This roadmap is based on 3 main strategic pillars, namely decarbonization of existing assets, environmentally friendly energy business development, and carbon negative initiatives such as CCUS and Nature-Based Solutions (NBS)," Nicke said at the International & Indonesia Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Forum 2023 event quoted Tuesday, September 12.
Nicke added that Pertamina's active role in the implementation of the CCUS operation has been demonstrated by the injection of CO2 at Pertamina EP - Jatibarang Field, West Java.
"Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technology that utilizes CO2 for Huff and puff has had a positive impact on reservoirs," said Nicke.
In addition, he said, Pertamina will also carry out CO2 injection activities at Sukowati Field, East Java, to increase oil and gas production as well as have the potential to store CO2.
Pertamina continued Nicke actively supports the important target of the Indonesian government to become one of the implementers of the CCS Hub in the ASEAN region.

According to him, Indonesia's mission to develop CCS has a promising future, given the abundant natural resources, such as oil, gas, and coal, proves that there are sediment basins that are potentially suitable for CO2 storage across the country.
Various studies suggest that there is a potential storage capacity of up to 400 gigatons (GT) in the sediment basin. Indonesia's geographical position is also seen as favorable for cross-border CO2 transportation, thus supporting the development of CCS Hub in the Asia Pacific region.
Nicke also said that Pertamina is ready to collaborate with various parties related to the development of CCS/CCUS.
"If needed, we are also ready to be actively involved in future regulations and policies to create a more comprehensive CCS/CCUS ecosystem in Indonesia," concluded Nicke.
