Accompanying President Jokowi at the MIKTA Meeting, Minister of Trade Zulhas: The Global Situation is Complicated, We Encourage Collaboration

JAKARTA – Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan is said to have accompanied President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who chaired the First Meeting of the Leaders of Mexico, Indonesia, Korea, Turkey and Australia or the 1st MIKTA Leaders' Gathering. The meeting was held as part of the G20 agenda which took place this week in New Delhi, India.

Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan said state leaders encouraged collaboration to face global challenges.

“MIKTA is meeting for the first time. "The President of the Republic of Indonesia and MIKTA state leaders spoke about a number of things, including sustainable development and climate change," he said as reported on the official website on Sunday, September 10.

According to Trade Minister Zulhas, Zulkifli Hasan's nickname, MIKTA leaders also discussed the need for collaboration and cooperation between countries to face global challenges.

"MIKTA countries need to support inclusive economic recovery," he said.

The Minister of Trade added that state leaders also agreed to jointly encourage reform in making policies considering that future dynamics are believed to be more complex

“Global governance has changed. "We hope this can accommodate the needs of developing countries," he stressed.

For information, the 1st MIKTA Leaders' Gathering was held on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi, India on September 9-10, 2023.

Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan said that at the MIKTA meeting, MIKTA State Leaders also discussed economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.
