Mahfud MD Supports Acceleration Of Registration Schedule For Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates At KPU
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD supports the plan to schedule the registration of presidential candidates (candidates) and vice presidential candidates (cawapres) at the KPU to 1016 October 2023.
"Six days. Why make a fuss. Look for candidates, keep changing, make a fuss. Speed up, the voting will remain on February 14 (2024)," said Mahfud MD during a speech at the National Consolidation event of the Islamic Ormas Friendship Institute and the Religious Ormas Friendship Institute (LPOI-LPOK) in Jakarta as reported by ANTARA, Friday, September 8.
Mahfud said the registration period, which was previously scheduled for October 19-25 November 2023, was too long, causing an argument in determining the candidate to advance.
"Now the stages are running. In fact, the president's registration will be accelerated. Because this is too long, who is fighting forward, who is registered," added Mahfud.
He stated that this was in response to the plan to advance the schedule as stated in the draft General Election Commission (PKPU) Regulation on the Nomination of Participants in the General Election of the President and Vice President, from the beginning 19 October-25 November 2023 to 10-16 October 2023.
"This is a draft because of the decision to change the schedule, there is no need for legislation. It only needs an agreement between the DPR Commission II, the Minister of Home Affairs (Minister of Home Affairs), the KPU, Bawaslu. This just met, it agreed," he said.

In addition, Mahfud invited all parties to make the election a mandate from God.
"Let's keep this as a mandate from Allah, namely the mandate to enforce the constitution so that this country can truly become a toyibatun warobun ghofur (a country that collects the natural good and good behavior of its residents)," he said.
He also said that the political year was synonymous with turbulence or shaking. Therefore, Mahfud asked for an important mitigation so that the turbulence does not cause division.
"The election is our means to protect this country as a mandate, as a blessing and a blessing from Allah to us, so that it can be maintained through, among others, by elections," he said.
