JAKARTA - OpenAI CEO and Co-Founder Samuel (Sam) Altman officially became the first foreign citizen (WNA) to receive a Golden Visa after visiting Indonesia last June.
Signed directly by the Director General of Immigration, Silmy Karim, the golden visa that Altman received has a sub-category of world figures with a stay period of 10 years.
Reasons for Granting Sam Altman a Golden Visa
Based on information on his official website, Silmy said that this golden visa was granted because Altman is the boss of a research company and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) which is beneficial for all mankind.
Altman had come to Indonesia to gain various knowledge about AI technology which continues to develop now. Silmy hopes that in the future Altman can contribute directly to the development of AI in the country.
"With this golden visa, it is hoped that Altman can contribute to the development of the use of artificial intelligence in Indonesia," said Silmy.
As a golden visa holder, Altman will be able to enjoy a number of exclusive benefits from this type of visa, such as screening lanes, priority service at the airport, ease of entry and exit from Indonesia, and longer stay times.
The granting of a Golden Visa to Altman is a concrete form of the role of the Directorate General of Immigration in making the development of the AI ecosystem a success in Indonesia.
