Far From East Java, DKI Jakarta Is Strong At The Top Of The 2023 Popnas Medal Achievement Standings
PALEMBANG - XVI National Student Sports Week (Popnas) in Palembang, South Sumatra has taken place from August 26 and will close on September 4, 2023.
Popnas in Palembang competes in 22 sports such as volleyball, badminton, rowing, judo, karate, kempo, shooting, archery, rock climbing, pencak silat, swimming, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, football, taekwondo, tennis, boxing, wushu taolu and sanda.
The student athletes competed for a total of 1,143 medals with details of 339 gold medals, 339 silver medals, and 465 bronze medals.
Based on data compiled from the Popnas XVI media center in Palembang, this Saturday, the DKI Jakarta contingent is getting stronger at the top of the standings for the XVI National Student Sports Week (Popnas) medal in Palembang, South Sumatra with 127 medals, winning over East Java in second place with 105 medals.
The DKI Jakarta contingent pocketed 59 gold, 34 silver, and 34 bronze. Meanwhile, East Java won 39 gold, 35 silver, and 31 bronze.

Meanwhile, in the third position, the West Java contingent was filled with 102 medals with details of 35 gold, 26 silver and 41 bronze medals. Followed by Central Java in fourth place with 77 medals (27 gold, 29 silver, and 21 bronze).
The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) is in fifth position with 39 medals (14 gold, 11 silver, and 11 bronze).
Meanwhile, the host South Sumatra had to drop from sixth to eighth with 38 medals (seven gold, 12 silver, and 19 bronze).
East Kalimantan replaced South Sumatra in sixth place with 34 medals (10 gold, six silver, and 18 bronze) followed by West Kalimantan in seventh place with 18 medals (eight gold, four silver, and six bronze).
Head of the PB Match Division Popnas XVl Adi Wahyuono said congratulations to the students who competed either for achievement or not.
"Keep sportsmanship because this is very important to support athletes' achievements in the future to international competitions," Adi said, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, September 2.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive of Popnas 2023 SA Supriono said there were 5,266 athletes from 34 provinces appearing at Popnas XVI/2023 which ran from August 27 to September 3.
