Ministry Of Foreign Affairs: 708 Indonesian Citizens In Gabon Are Safe And Calm

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) said that 708 Indonesian citizens (WNI) living in Gabon were safe and calm.

"There are 708 Indonesian citizens living in Gabon. The majority are migrant workers who work in the wood industry who live far from Libreville. They are in a safe and calm condition," said the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and BHI of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha reported by ANTARA, Thursday, August 31.

Judha said the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) of Abuja and the Indonesian Honorary Consul in Gabon continued to monitor the situation in Gabon after the military coup.

"The situation in Libreville remains safe and orderly," Judha said.

Judha said that the Indonesian Embassy had conveyed an appeal from Indonesian citizens to continue to be vigilant and follow developments in the situation and if they experience problems, immediately contact the Indonesian Embassy in Abuja's hotline.

Earlier, on Wednesday (30/8), a group of senior military officials in Gabon claimed to have seized power moments after the country's election agency announced President Ali Bongo's election victory for the third time.

They said the election results were canceled, the entire border was closed until further notice, and the entire state body was dissolved.

There has been no comment from the Gabon government, which is a member of the OPEC oil producing group, and there has been no word from the whereabouts of Bongo, who was last seen in public voting on Saturday.
