G7 Strictly Condemns North Korea's Action To Launch Satellite Using Ballistic Missiles
JAKARTA - The G7 countries on us strongly condemn North Korea's space launch using the so-called ballistic missile technology poses a major threat to peace and stability.
"This launch is clearly a blatant violation of the UN Security Council (UNSCR)'s Resolution and poses a major threat to regional and international peace and stability," the G7 said in a joint statement by their foreign ministers and the head of EU foreign policy., Friday, August 25.
North Korea launched a military reconnaissance satellite for the second time on Thursday. But the launch failed due to errors in the rocket's emergency detonation system during the third phase of the flight.
While pointing to North Korea's continuous action in launching ballistic missiles despite repeatedly denouncing it, the G7 said the move proved North Korea's attention in enhancing and diversifying its nuclear capabilities and ballistic missiles.
"Once again we repeat demands that North Korea completely abandon its nuclear weapons and nuclear programs, as well as any weapons of mass destruction program and ballistic missile program," they said.

G7 foreign ministers say North Korea's actions must be answered with a swift, united and strong international response, particularly by the UN Security Council.
"North Korea is not allowed and will not have the status of a nuclear armed country according to the Nuclear Weapons Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)," added the G7.
The G7 affirms its commitment to working with partners towards peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
