The Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Ensures That No Indonesian Citizen Dies Due To A Great Fire In Greece
JAKARTA - Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and BHI of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha confirmed that there were no victims of Indonesian citizens in the forest fires that killed dozens of migrants in Greece. Based on information compiled by the Indonesian Embassy in Athens and the Indonesian Consulate General in Istanbul who continued to monitor the impact of the disaster, forest fires have also penetrated the Greek border area with Turkey. "Based on coordination with local authorities and groups of Indonesians, to date no Indonesian citizens have been victims of the fire disaster, both in Greece and Turkey," Judha said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, August 24. The forest fires caused 18 victims to die. They are suspected to be illegal immigrants from Turkey. The bodies of the victims were found in remote villages in the southern coast of Avantas village in northern Greece on Tuesday (22/8). The location is a forest fire site that has been going on for days and is currently still ongoing. Evros's wider area is a popular route for migrants crossing rivers from Turkey to Greece. The Greek fire fighting team ensures that searches throughout the area where fires are taking place.
