Continue Tradition, BMW Introduces New Series-7 That Holds Detonation, Bullets, And Drone Attacks
JAKARTA - BMW has presented improvements to their latest model, namely Series-7. This improvement is not only related to design or performance, but rather in terms of security.
This series-7 has been introduced in an armored variant equipped with protective glass, stronger chassis, and reliable car body in protecting from explosives.
According to an Autocar report, Tuesday, August 8, the BMW Series-7 Protection is the latest variant of Series-7 which was first supported by a armored protection configuration in this model. This strong body adjustment is also applied to the electric variant, namely i7.
All Seri-7 bodies are given core protection called the BMW Protection Core. This protection includes reinforcement on the door, bottom of the car body, and also on the roof.
The German manufacturer claims that Seri-7 is also capable of protecting from various types of explosions, including those from bullets, drone attacks, and even hand grenades.
The protection is not only limited to the body of the car, but also includes the glass. The protective glass has VPAM 10 certification, which indicates that this section meets the highest standards for civilian protection vehicles.
Series-7 Protection is also ranked VR9, meaning the sedan can withstand ballistic attacks from weapons moving at speeds of up to 820 meters per second. In addition, this luxury sedan has a PAS 300 explosion resistance, coupled with self-recovered fuel tanks.
Another feature developed is the light 20-inch PAX rim. This rim is equipped with a run-flat ring that allows the car to be driven at speeds of up to 80 km/hour during flat tires or air pressure loss. However, despite getting above average protection, this may have an impact on car performance.
With a dual electric motor, i7 Protection has up to 528 stances and 744 Nm of torque. This means that i7 Protection can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hour within 9 seconds, almost twice as long as the standard i7. The highest speed reaches 159 km/hour.
Meanwhile, the hybrid version of the Series-7 Protection is equipped with a 4.4-liter V8-mid hybrid engine that produces 514-horsepower and 749-nm torque. This allows this car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hour within 6.6 seconds, with a maximum speed of 209 km/hour.
Just like other models, both BMW Series-7 Protection and i7 Protection will be produced at the Digolfing plant, Germany, which is the largest BMW factory in Europe. Both models will be exhibited at the IAA Mobility Show before it starts shipping in December.

Before these two newest sedans, BMW had a long history of providing armored cars for more than 40 years. This started with the BMW Series-7 Security Vehicle in 1978.
The next two Series-7 generations also received a armored configuration until 2004, when the manufacturer introduced BMW X5 Security. The protection feature continues to be improved from generation to generation, including in the next Series-7 and X5.
