Kickstarter Asks Creators to Be Upfront in Making Projects Using AI

JAKARTA - The emergence of AI technology makes it easy for everyone to do work, from writing essays, in-depth analysis, to creating works.

Seeing this growth, finally Kickstarter as the world's largest public funding platform is now asking its creators to disclose the use of AI in their projects.

The company insists that they are not against the use of AI in Kickstarter projects. However, companies want to ensure that all projects they fund have clear sources and credit.

"This policy requires creators to be transparent and specific about how they use AI in their projects," wrote Susannah Page-Katz, Director of Trust & Safety at News, Kickstarter Policy in her announcement a few days ago.

"Because when we're all on the same page about what a project requires, it builds trust and sets the project up for success," he adds.

As such, starting August 29, this policy will require creators to disclose if their project produces output using AI, if it primarily concerns the development of generative AI technologies or if it uses AI in other ways. They need to disclose which parts of their project feature entirely original work.

Kickstarter will also require creators to certify whether they have permission to use the work or data used in the AI-generated aspects of their project. They need to provide an overview of how their data source deals with approvals and credits.

If a creator does not properly disclose their use of AI during the submission process, Kickstarter may suspend the project.
