Google Reshuffles Team to Create Generative AI-Powered Google Assistant
JAKARTA - Google is rumored to be overhauling the capabilities of its assistant, Google Assistant, and choosing to focus their work on exploring Generative AI in the future.
"We've also seen the huge potential of generative AI to change people's lives and see a huge opportunity to explore what a supercharged Assistant can look like, powered by the latest LLM technology. (Part of the team has already started working on this, starting with mobile)" wrote Google's VP Peeyush Ranjan and product director Duke Dukellis wrote in an email that Axios found.
To realize this vision, Google ended up making several changes within the organization, such as reorganizing the Assistant team, for example by merging the Services team and the Surface team, and appointing leaders to the other teams.
In addition, there is also bad news that the tech giant will reduce several employees, or as they call small layoffs, along with the shifts.
"As part of this update, we are also removing a small number of roles from the team. We have informed our teammates of this and we will be providing dedicated support to help them through this transition."

However, Peeyush and Duke promised to give 60 days during another job search period for everyone affected by this change.
"Everyone affected will have an internal search period of at least 60 days, based on local requirements. This was an extremely difficult decision, so please support teammates as they are processing this news."
"We remain fully committed to Assistant and we are optimistic about the bright future ahead," concluded the email.
