Condemns Al-Quran Burning, European Union Calls For Mutual Respect Of Diversity
JAKARTA - EU High Representatives (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell condemned the recent blasphemy of the Koran in Sweden and Denmark.
"EU reiterated strong and firm rejection of all forms of incitement to hatred and religious intolerance," Borrell said in a statement released as reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Wednesday, July 26.
Borrell emphasized the importance of respecting diversity and other religious communities.
"The blasphemy of the Quran, or other books that are considered sacred, are offensive, disrespectful, and clear provocations. Expressions of racism, xenophobia, and related intolerance have no place in the European Union," Borrell said.

According to him, the actions taken by the provocateurs only benefit those who want to divide society.
In recent months, there have been several acts of burning or blasphemy of the Quran by Islamophobic figures or groups, especially in North European countries or Nordics.
The incident sparked outrage from Muslim countries and the international community.
