The Reason For Bawaslu Regarding The Proposed Postponement Of The 2024 Pilkada Is Considered Not Strong
The reason the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) of the Republic of Indonesia proposed that the postponement of elections to the regions (pilkada) simultaneously in 2024 be considered not strong.
Lecturer at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Jenderal Sudirman University (FISIP Unsoed) Purwokerto Ahmad Sabiq said, so far the simultaneous regional elections in various regions have been safe.
"The reason for the postponement of the regional elections is not strong. Concerns about the problem of excessive security," he said in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Java Tengan, Saturday.
According to him, other reasons presented by the Indonesian Bawaslu such as hoaxes, hate speech, and money politics are irrelevant.
"Is there a guarantee that if the regional elections are postponed, these practices can be eliminated," said the lecturer at the Political Party Theory and the Election System.
Sabiq said that if the work or synergy between the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia and Bawaslu RI is not optimal, the solution is to improve performance, not postponement of regional elections.
Previously, the Indonesian Bawaslu suggested that the government and election organizers, such as the Indonesian KPU, discuss options for delaying the implementation of the 2024 simultaneous regional elections.

"We are actually worried that the 2024 (pilkada) election will be due to the vote in November 2024, in which October 2024 will be the new presidential inauguration, of course with ministers and officials who may change. Therefore, we propose that we should discuss the option of postponement of elections (pilkada) because this is the first time simultaneously," said Chairman of the Indonesian Bawaslu Rahmat Bagja.
He also explained a number of potential problems in the 2024 General Election and 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections.
According to him, the potential for this problem arises from three aspects, namely from the organizers, election participants (elections), and voters.
