One Crew Member Of The Ship Ran Aground On Neyama Beach Dies After Being Evacuated

TULUNGAGUNG - The joint SAR team managed to evacuate 12 crew members (ABK) KM Jaya Utama 12 which ran aground in the waters of Neyama Beach, Tulungagung, East Java, but one of them died while being treated at the Besuki Health Center.

"The crew member who died passed out as soon as he was successfully evacuated to the mainland," said Besuki Police Chief AKP I Nengah Suteja as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 7.

The crew who died on behalf of Anang. The victim immediately fainted when the Basarnas team brought him to the beach.

While the other 11 crew members were safe, they were traumatized.

The fishing boat weighing 146 gross tons belonging to PT. The nine Persada Awards they were traveling in, initially anchored at Popoh Harbor, but the anchor rope broke, so the ship that experienced engine failure was carried away by the waves and dragged by the ocean currents and ran aground in the shallow waters of Neyama Beach on Friday morning.

The 12 crew members could not get off and pull over to the mainland, because of the big waves.

Local fishermen who knew there was a fishing boat carrying 12 crew members at that time did not dare to help, due to storm conditions and high waves.

The evacuation process was carried out by a joint SAR team from Basarnas elements and the TNI-Polri assisted by fishermen. However, the effort was also hampered by bad weather, finally the evacuation was carried out manually using ropes and life jackets.

"The crew could only be evacuated around 14.00 WIB, after being stranded since 05.00 WIB. Finally, they were evacuated manually one by one using ropes and buoys," said Suteja.
