The Ministry Of PUPR Ensures That The Construction Of Flood Control At YIA Airport Will Be Completed By The End Of 2023
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing through the Serayu Opak River Basin Center (BBWS) ensures that the construction of flood control in the New Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) area will be completed by the end of 2023.
River and Coastal Commitment Making Officers (PPK) 2 of the Task Force for the Implementation of the Serayu Opak BBWS Water Source Network, Sony Santoso, revealed that there were 4 work locations with each construction ER, namely the construction of the Bogowonto River estuary safety on the west and east sides, each reaching 99.9 percent and 100 percent, flood control of the Bogowto system by 77 percent and flood control of the Serang system reaching 87 percent.
"For the construction of the abogowonto on the west side, the progress is already 99.9 percent, it's just a matter of tidying up," Sony told the media, Thursday, July 6.
To control flooding in the YIA Airport area, his party Airported YIA, setting 7 macro concepts, namely first, reducing the flood peak discharge in the main drainage system in the YIA airport area, namely the Bogowonto River and Serang River by holding some of the inflow discharges that enter the main drainage system.
Second, making the East Carik Drainse Subsystem, Sidatan River, Kebo River, West Carik & Slope Timur a long storage system aimed at temporarily containing the discharge burden from the water catchment area before it can be channeled into the main drainage system of the Serang River.
"The third makes the West Carik & Slope sub-drain system a Long Storage system that aims to temporarily hold the discharge burden from the water catchment area before it can be channeled into the main drainage system of the Bogowonto River," explained Sony.
After the long-storage effect is maximized, he said, then if in the simulation of the water level flood modeling in the Bogowono River and Serang River it still exceeds the existing embankment, the flood management will be combined with raising the embankment on the main drainage system.
Furthermore, when the water level in Serang River and Bogowonto River is higher than the water level in long-storage, the door is closed.
On the other hand, if the water level in the long storage is higher than the water level of the main drainage system, the door is opened.
In an emergency condition where the water in the long storage is full, while the water level of Kalk Bogowono is still higher, the outlet system in West Carik's long-storage is assisted using a pump.
Then in an emergency condition where the water in the Retention Pool is full, while the water level in Serang River is still higher, the outlet system in the East Carik Retention Pool is assisted using a pump.

Just so you know, the location of Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) is located on the coast of the South Coast of the Special Region of Yogyakarta and is located between two rivers, namely the Bogowono River on the west side and the Serang River on the East side with a topography in the form of a lowland with a height of 0-100 m above sea level so that in the rainy season it is a flood-prone area.
"The construction of Yogyakarta International Airport affects the conditions, capacity, physical, and morphology of the coastal areas of the South Coast and the Bogowono River as well as the Serang River, thus increasing the potential threat of flood hazards for Yogyakarta International Airport," concluded Sony.
