MotoGP 2023: Jorge Martin's Wait Has a Sweet End
JAKARTA - Pramac Ducati racer, Jorge Martin, won the German MotoGP race at the Sachsenring Circuit, Sunday, June 18. This victory ended the thirst for victory that Martin had been feeling since two years ago.
The Spanish racer won after a tight duel with the Italian racer from the Ducati Lenovo Team, Francesco Bagnaia. His achievement was extraordinary because he started the race in sixth position, behind Bagnaia, Luca Marini, Jack Miller, Johann Zarco, and Marco Bezzecchi.
Martin won the leading position on the fourth lap. Remaining 20 laps, Jorge Martin still led the race. The racer with number 89 recorded a gap of 0.613 from racer number two Francesco Bagnaia.
The race left 10 laps, Francesco Bagnaia was getting closer to Jorge Martin and the climax was a moment later the Italian racer took over the leading position.
Not wanting to be second, Jorge Martin overtook Bagnaia. From here, an exciting race was shown by the two drivers.
Bagnaia was repeatedly seen trying to catch up. However, Martin showed a slick appearance so that the number 1 racer failed to overtake him.
This victory was Martin's first victory for seven 2023 MotoGP series as well as being the third podium in the previous two series, namely at the Le Mans Circuit, France, and the Mugello Circuit, Italy in second place.
"After two years, it has finally come," said Martin, as quoted from Antara.
"Very emotional day to win. I struggled to be competitive last season and it was frustrating," he continued.
Martin admitted the race at the Sachsenring was difficult. Moreover, he continues to be overshadowed by the 2022 MotoGP champion, Francesco Bagnaia.
"He's made incredible moves since yesterday. I've seen him since the warm up," he said.
Winning 25 points has brought Martin closer to Bagnaia's position at the top of the 2023 MotoGP standings with 144 points or a difference of 16 points.
