A Number Of Areas In Papua Have Zero Disaster Evacuation Signs, BPBD Hopes That The Regency Government Will Pay Attention
PAPUA - The Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov) hopes that the city district government will make evacuation route signs in disaster-prone areas for mitigation needs.
Head of BPBD Papua Province William R Manderi revealed that until now a number of regencies and cities do not yet have evacuation routes.
"For this reason, we hope that areas that have received evacuation route signs will be immediately installed," he said in Jayapura, Papua, Monday, May 29, which was confiscated by Antara.
According to him, the existence of these route signs is very important for the community, especially those living in disaster-prone areas.
"The tsunami evacuation path is very important for the community, because it determines the direction when a disaster occurs, people know where to go, where to gather, and where to run," he said.

He explained that if the signs were not available, it would complicate the evacuation process so that more victims would be affected by the disaster.
"Papua is an area prone to hydrometeorological disasters so it is necessary to carry out mitigation-mitigation in the event of a natural disaster," said Manderi.
For this reason, his party will collaborate with district and city BPBDs to monitor the installation of evacuation route signs, so that they become the basis for disasters, people already know where to evacuate themselves.
"BPBD also hopes that people in disaster-prone areas need to mitigate with joint collaboration. Thus, we believe that the impact will not be too big," he said.
