Pertamina Explores New Energy Resources Through Green Business Development
JAKARTA - PT Pertamina (Persero) pays more attention to climate change by exploring new energy resources through green business development which is expected to contribute more income.
Director of Strategy, Portfolio and Business Development of PT Pertamina (Persero) Salyadi Saputra in Tokyo, Japan, Saturday, May 27, said that currently, the contribution of revenue or income from Pertamina's fuel fossil is still around 82 percent.
It is hoped that with new businesses in the new renewable energy sector, Pertamina can reduce this contribution to 60 percent by 2030 to 30-35 percent by 2060.
"Pertamina has an obligation to ensure that energy is available, affordable and reliable," said Salyadi, as quoted by Antara.
This, he continued, needs to be balanced on how his party can create energy security, as well as convert to green energy source.
"This is a challenge for us, but we have identified what we can do," Salyadi said while talking in Tokyo, Japan, Saturday.
The construction of this new green business is a commitment from Pertamina to support the Indonesian government in achieving Net Zero Emission in 2060 or sooner.
Pertamina's new business includes Renewable Energy, EV charging and swapping, Blue Hydrogen / Hijau, Nature-Based Solutions, Batteries and EVs, Biofuel, carbon capture and storage (CCS / CCUS) integrated, and Carbon Market Business.
In addition to green business development, Pertamina is also developing a roadmap for asset decarbonization, which includes environmentally friendly power plants, reduction loss, fleet electrification, static equipment electrification, Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) and low carbon fuel for fleets.
"Indonesia is currently paying more attention to climate change, including Pertamina. We are making decarbonization efforts, which are mapped in a decarbonization roadmap consisting of two pillars, namely decarbonization and new business building for renewable energy," said Salyadi.
Currently, Indonesia contributes approximately 2-3 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions and makes it the eighth largest pollutor in the world.

Therefore, starting the project of decarbonizing greenhouse gas emissions in Indonesia will also make a significant contribution to the reduction in world emissions.
On the other hand, Indonesia has the largest tropical rainforest, peatlands, and mangrove cover that has the potential to store up to 300 billion tons of CO2. This makes Indonesia the second largest natural-based solution that has the potential to overcome emission problems.
In addition, Indonesia is also delegated to renewable energy and electricity which has the potential to produce around 400 GW. This can be a driving force for global decarbonization, which comes from various sources including geothermal (27.67 GW), wind (9.3 GW), sun (296.5 GW), bioenergy (49.8 GW), water (75.7 GW) and sea (18 GW).
Indonesia's advantages are a potential for a long-term sustainable business. Therefore, Pertamina requires various innovative and collaborative actions to achieve the 2060 target.
