So Candidates, South Sumatra OKI Regent Resigns
PALEMBANG - Regent of Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Regency, South Sumatra, Iskandar submitted his resignation from his position as regional regent because he wanted to focus on becoming a candidate for legislative candidate for the DPR in the 2024 election.
This was announced at the DPRD Plenary Meeting in OKI Regency, South Sumatra Province (Sumsel), Thursday, May 25.
Chairman of the OIC Regency DPRD Abdiyanto Fikri said the decision to submit himself was a form of compliance with the laws and regulations, namely implementing the provisions of Law Number 23 of 2014 concerning Regional Government, as well as Government Regulation Number 32 of 2018 concerning procedures for resignation in the nomination of DPR members, DPD members, DPRD members, President and Vice President.
"As regulated in the law, the DPRD officially announces its resignation as the Regent of the OKI and will be proposed to the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) through the Governor of South Sumatra," he said as quoted by ANTARA.
Meanwhile, Iskandar explained that the resignation was made because he registered a legislative candidate (caleg) as a member of the DPR in the 2024 election, while the end of the 2019-2024 elected OKI regent's term was effective on December 31, 2023.
"I need to say that resignation is an administrative requirement that must be met by every state official, regional head, State Civil Apparatus, members of the TNI/Polri, BUMN/BUMD employees and even village heads even if they run for legislative members, as regulated by Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Election Article 240 paragraph (1)," he explained.

Iskandar will continue to serve as Regent of OKI until the determination of the DCT for legislative elections as stipulated in the Regulation of the Head of the General Elections Commission (PKPU) Number 10 of 2023 that the determination of the Permanent Candidate List (DCT), which is on November 3, 2023.
This refers to the provisions of Government Regulation Number 32 of 2018 concerning Procedures for the Implementation of Campaign Leave for Officials who run for themselves both as members of the DPR, DPRD, DPD as well as being the pair of President and Vice President.
"I convey that, based on the constitution, I will continue my duties and dedication as the Regent of the OKI to the determination of the List of Permanent Candidates (DCT) for the 2024 General Election," he said.
At the end of his term of office, Iskandar invited the ranks of the DPRD, Forkopimda, all parties with the defense and all OIC people to continue their service according to their respective capacities.
