Hundreds Of Livestock In Bintan Kepri Will Be Vaccinated For FMD Booster Production Argentina
KEPRI - The vaccinator team of the Food and Agriculture Security Service (DKPP) carried out the second vaccination or booster for oral and nail disease (PMK) for hundreds of livestock in Bintan Regency, Riau Islands Province (Kepri).
"This vaccination is carried out to continue the first and second vaccinations that have been carried out in 2022," said Bintan Regency Veterinary Authority Official Iwan Berri Prima, Thursday, May 11, as reported by Antara.
Berry said the booster vaccination targets were 271 cows and 56 goats spread across seven sub-districts on Bintan Island, namely Gunung Kijang District as many as 34 cows, Teluk Bintan District 26 cows, and Toapaya District 97 cows.
Then, Teluk Sebong District as many as 36 cows and 40 goats, East Bintan District as many as 39 cows, Seri Kuala Lobam District as many as 11 cows and 12 goats and North Bintan District as many as 28 cows and four goats.

He explained that the PMK booster vaccination in livestock uses the Argentine-produced Afghan vaccine, with a injection dose of 2 ml per head in cattle and 1 ml per head in goat animals so that overall the target of booster vaccination in cattle is 542 ml doses and 56 ml doses in goat animals.
Furthermore, he said, vaccination is an effort made to prevent the transmission of PMK in livestock. Until now, Bintan is still declared a PMK-free area or PMK green zone.
"In addition to vaccination efforts to maintain the cleanliness of the cage or sanitation of the cage, improving biosecurity and maintaining livestock properly are efforts that must also be made by farmers. Don't just rely on vaccination efforts, because vaccination is not the only way to keep Bintan free of PMK," he said.
Meanwhile, in order to improve the safety and health of residents' animals, they are advised not to include vulnerable PMK livestock, such as cows and goats from outside Bintan Regency without illegal procedures.
This refers to the Circular Letter of the Central PMK Task Force Number 08 of 2022, which as a green zone area, Bintan Regency is only allowed to include livestock from fellow green zones.
