Tinder Adds A New Relationship Type Feature To Find The Right Match

JAKARTA - Tinder has launched a new feature so that its users can find the right match, as well as be more authentic on their dating profile.

Tinder users can now indicate whether they like monogamy, or ethical non-monogamy, or are open to exploring the Relationship Type feature.

According to a Tinder study earlier this year of 4,000 18- to 25-year-olds in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, 52 percent of Gen Z prefer monogamous relationships, while 41 percent are open to non-monogamous relationships.

Monogamous is someone who only has one relationship, whereas a non-monogamous is someone who can love two people simultaneously. This is the most popular type of relationship in the West, with 36 percent and 26 percent respectively interested in doing so.

Additionally, on Tinder users can choose up to four pronouns from 15 options besides their sexual orientation and gender, which have been available for years.

Still in the study, 33 percent of Gen Z agreed their sexuality was more fluid, and 29 percent said their gender identity had become more fluid in the last three years.

The Relationship Type feature will be available in the US, Canada, Australia, UK, Brazil, France, Netherlands, Indonesia, Taiwan, Italy, Spain, Thailand, Sweden, Germany and Mexico. However, the pronoun feature is for US only at this time.

The addition of the feature also aligns with Tinder's recently launched new feature, Relationship Goal, centered on what people look for in a relationship beyond type.

Relationship Goals can also be used by users to determine whether they are looking for a life partner or long-term, and even open for a short term. Users can also say they are just finding out the purpose of the date if they don't know it.

Of course, consumer interest may not be the only thing driving Tinder to adopt the feature. The lack of direct support for non-monogamous relationships on dating apps has frustrated both those seeking non-monogamy and those seeking to avoid it.

Launch TechCrunch, Friday, March 17th, this has led to more and more dedicated dating apps dedicated to non-monogamy, such as Feeld, #Open, MoreThanOne, and PolyFinda, because no one likes being matched with someone where the ideas and goals of the relationship are very different from them.

In addition, according to the FT, Tinder is also struggling to attract new users after the lifting of the COVID-19 lockdown. The report notes that app downloads have fallen by 5 percent in 2021.
