Google Transparency To Chrome Users, Will Show Memory Used When Opening Tabs

JAKARTA - Google is reportedly working on a new feature for Chrome that will show users how much memory is used on each open tab.

The information was first shared by Chrome expert Leopeva64 on Twitter, who spotted the new feature in Gerrit's Chromium entry.

This new feature will notify users of the specific memory usage for each open tab when they hover over it.

True, Chrome already has an integrated task manager that users can open in the More tools tab and then click on Task manager, which can reveal the memory usage of each tab, but the developers are working on something more user-friendly.

A strong suspicion, in future versions of Chrome by simply hovering over the mouse cursor over a tab, users can see information about memory usage in a pop-up.

This feature will be useful for users when they have multiple tabs open, as it will help them decide which one to close.

Not yet known exactly when this feature will be launched. But last month, the tech giant rolled out Memory and Energy Saving modes for Chrome on Mac, Windows, Linux, as well as Chromebooks.

Chrome Memory Saver automatically frees up memory from inactive tabs to give pages and other applications on the user's computer more resources.

And with the Energy Saver feature, Chrome can also save battery power at same time by limiting background activity and visual effects.

Lastly, Google is also reportedly working on a new feature for Chrome where users can delete the last 15 minutes of browsing data on Android. This was quoted from Business Standard, Monday, March 6.
