President Jokowi's Message To The Minister Of SOEs Who Was Elected As Chairman Of PSSI 2023-2027: Total Reform!

JAKARTA - SOE Minister Erick Thohir was officially elected as PSSI General Chair (Ketum) for the period 2023-2027. He was far ahead of his rivals in the vote at the Extraordinary Congress (KLB) which took place Thursday, February 16 at noon WIB.

Erick Thohir was lined up to become the new chairman of PSSI after pocketing 64 votes out of a total of 86 votes at the Shangri-La Hotel, Central Jakarta. Meanwhile, his closest competitor, LaNyalla Mattalitti, only has 22 votes.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) hopes that Erick Thohir can carry out total reforms in national football.

"We hope that with the new chairman there will be a total reform, this is our hope so that our football will become alive," said President Jokowi in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara, Thursday.

President Jokowi also hopes that the Minister of SOEs can improve the achievements of Indonesian football one step by step.

"Can at least (in) ASEAN can, we can hold the first'step', and (in) Asia we can hold the second, we hope that the government can," said the President.

The President reiterated that the government did not interfere in the election. He stated that the election was carried out based on the PSSI and FIFA Statutes.

"The government does not participate there, in accordance with the statutes," added the President.

PSSI Extraordinary Congress at the Shangri La Hotel will elect the general chairman, deputy general chairman, and members of the executive committee (exco) for the 2023-2027 period.

Voters consists of 86 votes consisting of 18 League 1 clubs, 16 League 2 clubs, 16 League 3 clubs, 34 provincial associations (asprov), two associations and one Indonesian futsal federation.
