It Took 12 Years For Marseille to Beat PSG at Home
JAKARTA – It took Olympique Marseille 12 years to beat Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) again when they played at their own cage.
Les Minots, who acted as hosts, successfully eliminated the Parisian giants from the Coupe de France after winning 2-1 at the Velodrome Stadium, Thursday, February 9 in the morning.
The hosts took the lead with a penalty in the 31st minute after Sergio Ramos fouled Cengiz Under in the box. Alexis Sanchez, who stepped up as executor, also successfully carried out his duties well.
In first-half added time, Ramos also made amends by scoring the equalizer with a header. He maximized the corner kick that was carried out by Neymar.
Marseille then ensured victory through Ruslan Malinovskyi's goal 12 minutes after halftime. He got a loose ball in front of goal and beat Donnarumma with a powerful shot to the top left of the net.
This is Les Parisiens' third defeat in 2023. What's more, the defeat of Christophe Galtier's team occurred less than a week before meeting Bayern Munich in the knockout stages of the European Champions League.
This is the first time Marseille has won at home to Paris since November 2011 (3-0 in Ligue 1), ending a nine-match winless run against this opponent in all competitions.
Despite being eliminated from the French Cup, PSG's chances of winning the French Ligue 1 title are still very large. They are currently still occupying the lowest position in the standings with 54 points or eight points ahead of Marseille.
