Russia Trying to Approach Strategic Logistics Locations, President Zelensky Admits War in the Eastern Region is Getting Difficult

JAKARTA - The situation on the front lines in eastern Ukraine is becoming more difficult, as Russian troops intensify their offensive, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday.

Russia has been gaining momentum on the battlefield, announcing advances north and south of the town of Bakhmut, its main target for months. The location of the reported battle clearly shows the additional Russian advance.

"A definite increase has been noted in the occupiers' offensive operations on the frontlines in the east of our country. The situation is becoming more difficult," President Zelensky said in a late-night video address, citing Reuters, February 2.

President Zelensky added that Russia is trying to get the advantages they can show at the first anniversary of the war on February 24.

Earlier, Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said heavy fighting was continuing in eastern Ukraine, where Russian troops were trying to gain ground near the strategic logistics center Lyman.

Malyar, writing on messaging app Telegram, said despite heavy losses, Russia was also pushing ahead with attacks near the towns of Bakhmut and Avdiivka.

It is known that Russian troops were expelled by the Ukrainian military from Lyman in October last year.

"Heavy battles are raging in the east. The enemy is trying to expand its offensive area in the Lyman sector. They are making vigorous efforts to break through our defenses," Malyar wrote.

Malyar added that Ukrainian troops were trying to defend themselves against Russia, which has more troops and weapons.

"Despite heavy losses, the Russian occupiers also continued their attacks in the Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Novopavlivka sectors," she stressed.
