Cannabis Nurseries in California Use Blockchain Technology to Verify the Authenticity of Plants
JAKARTA - A California-based cannabis nursery has turned to blockchain and smart contracts to verify the authenticity of its medicinal plants.
The cannabis nursery, known as the Mendocino Clone Company, was mentioned in a partnership announcement from the EMTRI project and technology company Global Compliance Applications on January 13.
This will leverage the ability of blockchain projects to certify all clones, or baby plants, with batch certificates.
Cannabis nursery is a company specializing in plant genetics, producing clones and baby plants and seeds for wholesale distribution purposes.
“This step allows the nursery to document the early stages of the cannabis plant's journey to become a premium product for consumers on a gram-weight-of-flowering basis,” said the Mendocino Clone Company, quoted by Cointelegraph.
Batch certificates are self-generated smart contracts for each batch of clones. This provides each baby plant with its own “unique identity block,” which is created by the nursery and linked to an Ethereum-based blockchain.
Its clients, which include commercial farms and retail pharmacies, can use this to verify the authenticity of the clones and their genetic lineage.
The first batch of certificate clones will be available from the first week of February.
In addition, licensed cultivators who buy Mendocino clones will get access to EMTRI token rewards (EMT) and better rates for participating in blockchain projects.
VOIR éGALEMENT:
EMT was launched in November 2022 to provide rewards for project participants. Tokens can be traded on Uniswap for USDC or staked for further yields. EMTs are not listed on centralized exchange data platforms or crypto marketplaces like CoinGecko.
“We are thrilled to be at the forefront of the cannabis industry being the first in the United States to adopt this cutting-edge technology in this way,” said EMTRI Corp co-founder Scott Zarnes.
However, combining crypto with cannabis is not a new concept. Last November, the cannabis-themed Metaverse project called Cannaland launched to create a virtual world for cannabis enthusiasts. In January 2022, custom pipe builders launched tokenized bongs with pictures of celebrities like Snoop Dogg and Santana in NFTs.
Projects like PotCoin (POT) and CannabisCoin (CANN) aimed to provide a niche digital currency to the industry since 2014, but they never really gained traction with their buyers.
