BMKG Asks Residents Of The DKI Jakarta, Aceh And Central Java To Be Alert For Floods, Rob 23-24 December

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has asked people on the coast of Aceh, north of DKI Jakarta, Central Java (Central Java) and a number of parts of Indonesia to be aware of the potential for tidal flooding when new moon and perigee phenomena occur.

"There is a new moon phenomenon on December 23, 2022 and perigee on December 24, 2022, has the potential to increase the maximum sea level," said Head of the BMKG Maritime Meteorology Center Eko Prasetyo when questioned, Wednesday, December 21.

Based on data monitoring the water level and tidal predictions, Eko explained, in addition to the areas that have been mentioned, tidal flooding is also likely to occur on the coasts of North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Lampung, Riau Islands, Bangka Belitung and Banten.

Furthermore, based on Antara's report, the opportunity for tidal flooding also hit coastal areas of West Java, Central Java, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, North Maluku, northern Papua, and South Papua.

"The potential for tidal flooding is different in days and hours in each region," said Eko.

He said, in general, tidal flooding will have an impact on community activities around ports and coasts, such as loading and unloading activities at ports, community activities in coastal settlements, as well as salt ponds and land fisheries activities.

"The public is advised to always be vigilant and alert to anticipate the impact of the maximum tide of sea water and pay attention to maritime weather information from the BMKG," he said.
