JAKARTA - The National Working Conference (Mukernas) II of the Indonesian Ulema Council in 2022 has produced a number of important recommendations, one of which highlighting the preparations of Muslims and the community in facing the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).
"In the 2024 General Election, MUI calls for Muslims to follow the orders of Allah SWT," said Deputy General Chairperson of MUI Kiai Haji Marsudi Syuhud as quoted by Antara, Saturday, December 10.
This, said Marsudi, was motivated by Indonesia as a country that has a basis for One Godhead and is produced from a mutual agreement.
"So, when choosing a government later, choosing a president, choosing representatives of the people as members of the DPR or MPR, all of this is in the context of worship following God's orders. How is the state and the nation in accordance with the mutual agreement," he said.
In addition, Marsudi explained regarding the recommendations of the results of the MUI Mukernas II which highlighted the role of the mass media in the 2024 General Election.
"Our obligation to speak according to facts and in fact, to make hoax news or lies prohibited by religion," he said.
Therefore, he reminded that the news published and submitted to the public must be in accordance with the facts. Moreover, it is a pleasure in accordance with the content of the Al Quran Surah Ad Duha Paragraph 11.
"When we get the fun, everything is according to the facts, then publish it and tell it," he explained.
The recommendation regarding the 2024 General Election was discussed in the National Working Group Commission C meeting. The recommendations are addressed to the government, election organizers, and the people.
Regarding MUI's recommendations regarding the 2024 General Election, namely the 2024 General Election should be used as an important momentum for the consolidation stage in order to achieve the maturity of democracy in Indonesia.
The hope is that a quality democratic system will be built and create a competent government and have strong legitimacy.
The challenges of democratic consolidation are often colored by the rampant money politics which damages the image and morality of democracy as well as ethnic politics, racial religion and between groups resulting in polarization.
"The MUI encourages the government to map and determine strategic steps as an effort to reduce money politics practices and uphold the principles of honesty, freedom, justice, and ethics," said Marsudi.
MUI also urges voters to exercise quality and integrity voting rights so as to produce leaders with integrity.
Not only that, the mass media are encouraged to be neutral or impartial and educate the public not to spread hoaxes and hate narratives.
