ADMIT TO THE World Cup After France Gebuk Poland, Kylian Mbappe: My Dream Competition

JAKARTA - Kylian Mbappe admits that he dreams of winning the World Cup for the second time after two goals gave France a 3-1 win over Poland to reach the Qatar 2022 World Cup quarter-finals to face England.

"Of course, the World Cup is my obsession, this is my dream competition," said the 23-year-old player who skyrocketed to the world stage by becoming a star as France won the Russian World Cup four years ago.

"I want to come here ready and so far everything is going well, but we are still far from the goals we have set and what I have set," Mbappe said as quoted by Antara via AFP.

The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar has now scored five goals in four games and has become France's second-highest scorer in the World Cup with nine goals out of a total of 11 appearances.

Only Just Fontaine scored 13 goals at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden that surpassed Mbappe's achievements. But Mbappe insists he doesn't bother with the prospect of winning the Golden Ball.

"My only goal is to win the World Cup," said Mbappe, who also designed Olivier Giroud's opener.

"I didn't come here to win the Golden Ball. That's not my reason here. I'm here to win and help the French national team."

Meanwhile Giroud scored his 52nd international goal to pass Thierry Henry as France's all-time leading goalscorer,

He was named man of the match in the win against France over Australia and Denmark.
