Facing Recession Threats, Jokowi Uses Economic Intelligence To Capture Investment Opportunities

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the current world situation is in a very difficult position due to the ongoing crises, such as the energy crisis, food crisis, and the financial crisis.

According to Jokowi, this condition certainly gives negative excesses to the Indonesian economy.

"Now we are in a very difficult position. Inflationary matters, economic growth matters that have plummeted, energy crisis matters, food crisis matters that are followed by the difficulty of finding fertilizers, financial crises, all haunt all countries," he said at the opening of the 2022 Investment National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) in Jakarta on Wednesday, November 30.

Therefore, Jokowi reminded all ranks to make measurable decisions taking into account the positive and negative impacts that will arise.

"Be careful in making policies, both fiscal and monetary policies. Moreover, in 2023 it is estimated that the world will experience a global recession. This will make all countries fight for investment," he ordered to Finance Minister Sri Mulyani and BI Governor Perry Warjiyo.

The President explained that incoming capital inflows play a role in encouraging the circulation of money in the country, thereby spurring national economic growth.

Furthermore, he revealed, also if the center and regions do not make it difficult for incoming investments.

"Don't let anyone be disturbed. The trust we have earned should not be lost because we mistreated, mistreated the investment that entered our country because of the intense competition in seizing investment," he said.

The President ensured that the government always studied investment developments in other countries which were classified as crowded through economic intelligence.

He said, various policies that can bring in investment more are valuable lessons, such as the provision of additional incentives and tax holidays.

Why do you flock there more and don't flock here? There are additional policies, there are additional incentives, we study, tax holidays, given better treatment. We study everything. But if later in the implementation there are still those who disturb, yes, everything has been disbursed, what is called a policy that we have designed," he explained.

In addition, the president also reminded that the online single submission (OSS) platform should be addressed and improved in terms of capabilities.

The reason, said Jokowi, is that the platform is considered fast to serve investment in order to maintain investor confidence.

"Please really look at the platform again, fix it properly so that what we have called it quickly, if we talk about it for five minutes, five minutes is true, if we talk about it for an hour, one hour is correct. Don't let me be told to talk about an hour, the fact can be six months. Wow, we can't believe it later. Please fix it, there's still a lot that needs to be fixed from this platform, "concluded President Jokowi.
