Cianjur Earthquake Update: 323 People Died, 9 People Missing

JAKARTA - Cianjur Regent Herman Suherman informed that as many as 323 people died until the eighth day of the earthquake since the earthquake struck in Cianjur Regency, West Java on November 21.

"The latest data as of today, Monday, November 28, the death toll was recorded at 323 people", said Cianjur Regent Herman Suherman in an online press conference reported by ANTARA, Monday, November 28.

While the missing victims are still being searched to this day, nine victims have been recorded.

"Tomorrow the search will continue, hopefully, it can be found", he said.

The regent said that 108 people were seriously injured and were still being treated at the hospital.

"The victims of minor injuries have been treated and returned to their respective homes", he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Lt. Gen. Suharyanto said the Cianjur Regent would take full control of the implementation of tasks in the field for handling earthquakes in Cianjur Regency, West Java, including searching and helping victims and handling refugees.

"The Regent will have full control regarding the implementation of tasks in the field, both related to search and rescue related to the handling of refugees, evacuation, including the construction of damaged houses", said Head of BNPB Lt. Gen. Suharyanto in a virtual press conference on Sunday, November 27.

That's because the earthquake in Cianjur Regency is a regional disaster, not a national disaster so all the handling of commands in the field and the implementation of daily activities will return to accordance with the provisions, namely the Regent becomes the commander of the task force.

However, Suharyanto said the central government would still assist and provide optimal assistance.
