JAKARTA - The people of West Kutai, East Kalimantan Province managed to record at the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI) in joint activities using the "Seraung" or typical power tribe hat, which was used by 11,553 people.
The Seraung or hat of the leaf material with a special manic embroidery of the Dayak Tribe was worn by 11,553 people in commemoration of the 23rd Anniversary of West Kutai Regency which was held at the Sendawar Cultural Park, on Saturday.
The MURI record award award award was handed over directly by the Director of Operations of Muri, Yusuf Ngadri to the Regent of West Kutai, Fransiskus Xaverius Yapan at the event.
"Thank you to the people of West Kubar who were the most Seraung participants who made it to the MURI record. This is extraordinary with good cooperation and I am sure, Seraung belongs to us together, even belongs to the Indonesian people," said the regent after receiving the MURI record certificate, quoted by Antara, Sunday.
He hopes that the people of West Kutai will continue to preserve local culture and its values, one of which is to maintain Seraung as a protective tool from the heat of the sun and rain.
The Regent also asked the people of West Kutai to rise and synergize towards the State Capital of the Archipelago based on cultural values.
He said using Seraung is a cultural heritage from the ancestors, and must be maintained by the next generation, namely the people of West Kutai.
"Thank you all the people of Kubar who have supported this MURI record-breaking," said Yapan.
